Andrew is an Australian film director and cinematographer who works to tell genuine human stories and the universal ideologies they give voice to, often using surfing as a catalyst to explore deeper societal, environmental, and cultural issues.

His work has been screened at festivals including Antenna Documentary Film Festival, St Kilda Film Festival and Byron Bay Film Festival demonstrating the strength of his process – one that is stripped back and adaptive – incorporating nuanced cinematography, honest performances, and unique audio scores.

The Man & The Sea (2016), Andrew’s first short film on enigmatic surfer DerekHynd, received a Vimeo staff pick which marked a pivotal point in his career as hebegan directing. The film gained recognition not only within the surf community, but from the broader public, for his ability to bring out the defining features of a central character.

His next film, Beyond the Noise (2019), an abstract exploration of our changing natural world through the lens of surfing, received eleven international awards for direction, cinematography, and best original score, and was distributed globally by Garage Entertainment (Madman Media Group). Andrew’s short film on big wave surfer Russell Bierke; Flow State (2020) won the Australian Surf Film of the Year award and his feature film Over the Edge (2021) was distributed globally by Screen Media Films, formerly 1091 Pictures.

Mourning Country (2021), Andrew’s most recent short film about Noel Butler, an indigenous elder from the Yuin Nation who lost his home and the aboriginal culturalcentre in the Black Summer bushfires, is a story of hope coming from a darkplace. Noel’s personal account of tragedy speaks to the broader environmental

crisis at hand. By sharing his loss, wisdom, and cultural knowledge, the film offers the message that together, if we make changes now, we may still be able to repair the damage that’s been done. The film was a finalist at St Kilda Film Festival and won the Northern Beaches Environmental Art Prize.

Andrew has received two ACS Silver awards for cinematography and has over five years’ experience working as a cinematographer on shows for leading international broadcasters such as Netflix, BBC1, BBC Earth, and Red Bull TV.
